Non-slip tiles aren’t just for bathrooms. Anywhere water, soap, rain or muddy shoes meet a hard floor, slip-resistant tiles reduce the risk of falls and make daily life safer — especially in homes with young kids or elderly family members.
- Bathroom floors and ensuites — the highest-risk wet zone in the house. A P3 rating is the minimum for general bathroom floors, with P4 or above for showers and walk-in wet rooms.
- Shower bases — small-format tiles (300x300mm or mosaics) work best here because the extra grout lines improve grip and drainage.
- Laundries and kitchens — splash zones that catch water, detergent and oil throughout the day.
- Alfresco areas, patios and balconies — exposed to rain, pool splash and Perth’s UV. Outdoor non-slip tiles need a higher rating (P4–P5) to handle wet conditions safely.
- Pool surrounds — the most demanding application of all. Bare feet, constant water and sun exposure call for the highest slip ratings available.
- Entryways and external paths — where wet shoes transition from outside to inside.

Slip Ratings Explained: P, R and What They Mean
Every tile we stock is clearly marked with its slip rating, so there’s no guesswork about where it can be used. But it helps to understand what those ratings actually measure before you choose.
There are three Australian standard tests for slip resistance, and you’ll see one or more of them on tile spec sheets:
- Wet Pendulum Test (P0–P5) — the most common rating for residential floors. Measures grip when the tile is wet. P0 is the smoothest, P5 the highest grip.
- Oil-Wet Ramp Test (R9–R13) — measures grip with oil on the surface. More common in commercial and outdoor specifications. R9 is the smoothest, R13 the highest grip.
- Wet Barefoot Ramp Test (A/B/C) — measures grip for barefoot wet conditions like pool surrounds and shower areas. A is the smoothest, C the highest grip.
You don’t need all three ratings to make a safe choice — meeting one test for your application is enough. Here’s a quick guide to what works where:
| Application |
Recommended rating |
| Powder rooms, dry indoor areas |
P2 / R9 |
| Bathroom floors (general) |
P3 / R10 |
| Showers and walk-in wet rooms |
P4–P5 / B |
| Laundries and kitchens |
P3 / R10 |
| Alfresco, balconies and walkways |
P4 / R11 |
| Pool surrounds and steps to water |
P5 / R11 / C |

Finishes in Our Range
Slip resistance comes from the tile’s surface texture, and different finishes suit different rooms. Our range covers four main finish types:
- Matte tiles — the most popular finish for general bathroom floors. A subtle texture gives reliable grip without feeling rough underfoot. Best paired with a P3 or P4 rating for everyday family bathrooms.
- Structured tiles — visible surface texture that mimics natural stone or sandstone. The highest level of grip available, with P5 ratings common. Ideal for showers, family bathrooms, and homes designed for ageing in place.
- Lappato tiles — a semi-polished finish with a light sheen. Sits between matte and gloss for grip, making it a good fit for powder rooms, guest ensuites and lower-traffic wet zones where style is the priority.
- SmoothGrip tiles — uses nano-surface technology to feel smooth underfoot while still meeting high slip ratings. Popular with families who want the comfort of a softer surface without compromising on safety.
In Perth, our most-requested non-slip ranges include Matang, Magic Stone, Paradigm and Terracrete — all available across multiple sizes and finishes to suit bathrooms, kitchens, laundries and outdoor areas.
Sizes and Formats
Tile size affects both grip and how the floor looks. Smaller formats like 300x300mm and mosaic sheets are the safest choice for shower bases, because more grout lines mean more traction and better drainage when the floor is wet. Larger formats — 600x600mm and above — work well across main bathroom floors, laundries and outdoor areas where slip risk is lower and a more seamless look is preferred.
For pool surrounds and alfresco areas, large-format tiles in structured finishes give you the best of both: a modern, clean aesthetic with the slip resistance that outdoor wet zones demand.
Styling Non-Slip Tiles
Slip-resistant doesn’t mean industrial or utility. Our non-slip range covers all the popular looks you’d find in any premium tile collection:
- Stone-look — natural sandstone, limestone and travertine appearances, perfect for organic or coastal-inspired bathrooms and alfresco zones.
- Concrete-look — minimalist, contemporary tones suited to modern Perth homes.
- Travertine-look — warm, classic styling that works equally well indoors and around pools.
- Encaustic-look — patterned tiles for powder rooms and feature areas where you want the floor to make a statement.
- Timber-look — the warmth of timber with the durability and slip resistance of porcelain.
