What is considered a vanity?

A bathroom vanity is any bathroom cabinet fitted with a basin. It’s the addition of a basin that differentiates a vanity from a cabinet.

Vanities can come in many forms. They don’t even have to utilise a cabinet. It can be a simple benchtop and exposed shelf, which is a contemporary vanity choice. They don’t even have to be sold with a sink included.

Some vanities are sold without a sink or vanity top. They are still classed as a vanity because they are designed for a basin or vanity top to be added. This is a popular option as it allows the homeowner to select a basin to complement their bathroom design style.

If you’re looking for vanities in Perth, consider the wide range available in our Bathroom Vanities range. We also offer an array of Vanity Tops and Basins to create a more customised look.

Which is better, a wall hung or pedestal vanity?

The answer as to whether a wall hung or pedestal vanity is better depends on your circumstances, the application, and personal style preference.

If your renovating, you must consider the plumbing. If the existing plumbing for the vanity comes up through the floor, then a pedestal vanity may be better suited. However, if your existing plumbing comes out of the wall, then a wall hung vanity would be a better choice.

Hung vanities are generally much larger than pedestal vanities and provide essential storage. They are therefore commonly found in bathrooms and ensuites.  On the other hand, pedestal vanities are small and offer no storage, making them ideal for small spaces such as powder rooms.

In terms of style, wall hung vanities are by far the more popular choice but ultimately, it comes down to your existing plumbing and the size room it will be installed in.

What is the benefit of using a mixer tap instead of a separate hot and cold water tap?

A mixer tap combines the hot and cold water before it reaches the spout and allows you to adjust the water temperature as it flows, rather than adjusting it when it’s already in the basin. Mixer taps don’t have traditional washers that need changing as they use a ceramic disc system to control the water. Mixer taps are also supplied with flexible hoses that make installation much easier than traditional ridged pipes.

How do I decide between a freestanding bath or drop-in bath?

Freestanding baths will add a real wow factor to your bathroom. Freestanding baths often take up more space and if the bath is made of stone, your bathroom floor needs to be strong enough to handle the extra weight. Please note that extra plumbing maybe required to conceal the pipework.
A freestanding bath usually sits against a wall or as an island. It must be level to ensure it drains properly and be secure enough to support the weight of the water, plus a person.
We have a huge range of freestanding and drop-in baths to choose from that vary in size and price. We are sure that you have the perfect bath for you and your bathroom.

Can I tile over existing tiles?

Yes, you can. You need to consider the condition of the existing tiles, the additional weight of the new tile and ensure you use the right adhesive. The existing tiles and grouting must be thoroughly cleaned, otherwise the adhesive will not bond. It is also recommended that you remove the glaze off the existing tiles with a sander or grinder for better adhesion.
We have a range of tiles to choose from and our tiling specialists are on hand to answer any questions
