Selecting the right shower screen depends on several key factors. Start by considering the size of your bathroom and how much room you have available. For limited spaces, options like sliding doors or frameless screens are ideal, as they require minimal clearance. Larger bathrooms can accommodate options like pivot doors, which provide a classic look while maintaining functionality.
Next, think about your specific needs and preferences. Do you want clear, toughened safety glass for an open feel or frosted glass for added privacy? The finish of your shower screen, such as chrome accents, can also enhance your bathroom’s style and match existing fixtures. Additionally, consider how easy the screen will be to clean and maintain once installed. Features like smooth glass panels or protective coatings can reduce cleaning time and keep your bathroom looking fresh.
For practical guidance, check out our detailed guide on how to maintain your shower screen to keep it in pristine condition.
Finally, ensure your shower screen is crafted from high-quality materials for safety and durability. Look for toughened glass and reliable hardware that can withstand everyday use. Whether you need a screen that saves space or a statement piece with a unique door style, selecting the right screen will ensure a practical and appealing bathroom solution.
By evaluating your available shower, desired level of privacy, and preferred materials, you can confidently choose a shower screen that meets your requirements. Ross’s Discount Home Centre has shower screens and shower doors to suit every need.
The right shower screen depends on your bathroom layout, available door clearance and the look you prefer. I always recommend starting with the configuration first, then checking the available sizes and adjustment range.
| Shower screen type | Best suited to | How it opens |
|---|---|---|
| Frameless shower screens | Bathrooms where you want minimal visible framing | Pivot, hinged or fixed, depending on the model |
| Semi-frameless shower screens | A balance of minimal framing, practicality and price | Pivot or sliding, depending on the model |
| Sliding shower screens | Bathrooms with limited clearance outside the shower | Slides along the screen without swinging out |
| Corner shower screens | Showers positioned in the corner of the bathroom | Entry configuration varies by model |
| Walk-in showers | Open shower layouts where you don’t want a door | Fixed glass panel with an open entry |
| Shower doors | Wall-to-wall and recessed shower openings | Pivot, hinged or sliding, depending on the model |
If you’re still deciding, start with the space around your shower. A sliding screen can work well where there’s little room for a door to swing out, while a walk-in panel suits bathrooms with enough space for an open entry. Frameless and semi-frameless options give you different levels of visible framing without limiting you to one shower layout.
Choosing the right shower screen is essential to achieving both functionality and style in your bathroom. Whether you’re working with a compact bathroom or designing a luxurious bathroom, there’s a shower screen to suit every layout and preference. Ross’s Discount Home Centre stocks a wide range of shower screens, shower doors, and shower bases, including framed and frameless designs, semi-frameless options, sliding screens, and more. Each type has unique features to cater to different needs, making it easier to choose the perfect fit for your bathroom.
Frameless shower screens are the epitome of modern bathroom design. Their sleek, minimalist design eliminates bulky frames, creating a seamless and open aesthetic. Frameless shower screens are made with toughened glass for safety, allowing light to flow through and making even small bathrooms appear larger. Explore our frameless shower screens to find options that bring sophistication to your space.
For those seeking a balance between style and budget, a semi-frameless shower screen is an excellent choice. These screens combine the minimalist look of frameless designs with the structural support of frames. They’re ideal for households looking for durability and affordability without compromising on aesthetics. Including in our collection is a range of modern black shower screens and silver shower screens.
Corner and corner entry shower screens are perfect shower screens for small bathrooms. Designed to fit neatly into corners, these screens free up central areas, creating a more functional and efficient layout. These shower screens have sliding or pivot shower doors, providing versatility to suit different preferences and bathroom configurations. Their sleek and modern designs make them a practical and stylish choice for smaller spaces, combining convenience and aesthetics in one solution.
Sliding door shower screens are a smart solution for tight spaces where traditional hinged doors aren’t practical. The sliding shower door mechanism ensures smooth access while saving valuable space, making them ideal for small or narrow bathrooms. Discover the pros and cons of sliding shower screens to see if they’re the right choice for your bathroom.
Shower screen doors—available in pivot and hinged styles—offer timeless functionality and elegance. Pivot doors provide easy access with their rotating mechanism, while hinged doors deliver a classic look. Both styles are available in framed, semi-frameless, and frameless designs to suit your preferences. Read our pivot shower door vs. hinged shower door comparison to see which shower door is best for your bathroom.
Walk-in shower panels are the ultimate choice for accessibility and luxury. These shower designs eliminate barriers, offering a sleek, open layout that is easy to access and maintain. With versatile configurations, walk-in showers work well in bathrooms of all sizes. Discover if walk-in showers are right for you in our walk-in showers vs. shower enclosure comparison.
Choosing the right shower screen depends on your bathroom size, layout, and personal preferences. Whether you prefer the minimalism of frameless screens or the practicality of sliding or corner options, Ross’s Discount Home Centre has a wide range to help you create the perfect bathroom. Read our article on the types of shower screens for more information on these options.
Ross’s stocks supply-only DIY shower screens for new bathrooms, renovation projects and replacements. Our standard-size pivot, sliding, corner-entry and walk-in options are ready for pickup or delivery, with selected models offering adjustment ranges to accommodate different finished openings.
Before ordering a DIY shower screen, measure the finished opening at the top, middle and bottom, check whether the model suits a tiled floor or shower base, and confirm there is enough clearance for the door to open safely. Product-specific sizes, adjustment ranges and installation requirements are listed on each product page.
DIY installation can help reduce project costs, but shower glass is heavy and must be handled carefully. We recommend professional installation if you are not experienced with accurate measuring, drilling through tiles, sealing wet-area joints or handling large glass panels. Screens damaged or broken during installation are not covered under warranty. If you plan to install your screen yourself, our step-by-step guide on how to install a shower screen provides practical guidance for a safe, accurate installation.
Always measure the finished shower opening before ordering your screen. Tiles and other finished surfaces can change the final dimensions, so don’t choose a shower screen from the nominal size alone.
Many of our shower screens include an adjustment range to help accommodate different finished openings. The amount varies by model, so check the dimensions and adjustment range on the individual product before ordering.
Some of our Alpine frameless pivot doors, for example, offer up to 150 mm of width adjustment, while selected pivot and sliding models offer up to 100 mm. These adjustment ranges can make stock shower screens suitable for a wider range of bathroom openings, but your measurements still need to fall within the specifications of the screen you choose.
If you’re unsure where to take your measurements, follow my guide to measuring for a shower screen before you order.
Shower Frame Options
The frame option is the last consideration when choosing shower screens in Perth. Shower screens can have a framed, semi-frameless, or frameless design. Traditional shower screens are framed and comprise a frame around all glass edges. Offering many benefits, semi-frameless shower screens are partially framed, while fully frameless shower screens have no frame and are fixed in place with small brackets.
Choose a fully frameless shower screen for a more contemporary and far less imposing shower screen. They will make any space appear brighter and larger, a massive bonus for smaller bathrooms.
The cost of a shower screen depends on factors like whether it is stock or custom, the style, size, and materials used. At Ross’s, corner shower screens are the most expensive, starting at around $840, while sliding shower screen options typically range from $680 to $1,320. Frameless shower screens are the most affordable, with prices starting as low as $300 for a 70cm panel. View our stock shower screens vs. custom screens comparison to see which best suits your needs and budget.
When budgeting, remember to factor in installation costs, as professional installation is often necessary for a secure and lasting fit. At Ross’s Discount Home Centre, we offer a variety of shower screens to suit every budget and style.
